In late 2015 I was looking at selfies friends of mine were posting with an interesting angle. Not a smart phone owner myself, I'm an outsider on the whole selfie craze. What was most interesting to me, though, is how the approach of taking a selfie varied so greatly from person to person. This led to a larger thought about how beauty is not only subjective to whoever is viewing an art, but also people view different beauty in themselves and highlight and broadcast different forms of their own beauty.

Spring 2016 I collected selfies from friends, and asked them to choose selfies in which THEY felt beautiful - the key is that the beauty takes the art form of the subject. Some selfies reflect a time when the subject felt most beautiful - perhaps post-workout, with someone who makes them feel beautiful, or a time of day. Some have a context, like having the right hair and make-up or with the perfect sunset. There will even be different selfies of the same people through time, showing how one's ideas of beauty can change through time.

The obvious X-Factor is how I as the artist interpret what path of beauty I see the subject embraces and my artistic approach to highlighting the unique beauty through medium and style. And the last part will be you, the viewer, adding your artistic gaze as well.

This is an ongoing project, so come back to see me add more - or even send me your selfies!
